Identity theft explodes in US Almost 4% of Americans had their identity stolen in the past year, research suggests, and the problem is getting worse. That are more than 7 millions – almost Austria’s people (!). The problem is actually not related to hi-tech or internet-users only, scams are being sent around not only via e-mail. Gartner says: “Many credit issuers don’t recognize identity theft fraud for what it is… causing a disincentive to fix the problem with the urgency it requires”
