SourceForge Enterprise for closed opensource at IBM

With security its main concern, Big Blue chooses VA Software’s

enterprise edition software for its internal open-source group.

The Sourceforge Enterprise suite is the development platform including metrics, statistics and other neat features we could use for huge development projects. I just wonder how IBM will deploy that. After all an installation “behind firewalls” will make “open” source not possible at all. But what I notice very well is the “monitoring” aspect of the enterprise edition that sure will make it possible for IBM management to have a more in-depth view of the developments than before… other Software QA approaches like austrian Qido have similar ideas and selling propositions… as often the get-all-out-of-the-box approach of VA seems to win.

If you've got a relatively small setup - i.e., less than 25,000 users or so - take a look at http://gforge.org/. It's being used to power a variety of dev communities, including http://rubyforge.org/ and http://cougaar.org/.
