Got a mail from oracle technet, that I can check out some cool Oracleworld 2003 presentations
about Oracle 10g – 10 grams of Oracle or what? No – that’s the new product name where “g” seems to stand for “grid-computing”... that is another way to look at real-application clusters (RAC) which were already available in Oracle 9i – a more loosely coupled cluster actually.
Oracle focusses this release also very much on the self-storage management capabilities – a kind of weakness and strength so far compared to SQL server and other database systems, although Oracle introduced great features for that topic since Version 8 already…
Checkout the news release at eweek and
at news release at eweek at well… the investor press releases found no word about it for the last 2 weeks…
Oracle will detail 10G Database at OracleWorld San Francisco, beginning on 7 September, when CEO Larry Ellison will also unveil 10G Application Server.
Oracle’s news comes as Microsoft releases the first beta of its next SQL Server database.
