Rich Client Platform - Eclipse 3 M5 new feature

Next weeks release M5 of Eclipse is going to deliver the Rich Client Platform – an exciting new way to build Java applications that can compete with native applications on any platform. As I noted some months ago, SAS joined Eclipse http://weblog.cemper.com/a/200308/24-sas-to-join-eclipse-consortium.php and Ed from SAS published a first part of a Tutorial on the Rich Client Platform.

The Rich Client Platform turns Eclipse into an application framework for creating powerful new integrated applications that share a common look and feel with Eclipse – which is much better than old-school Swing or AWT applications because they utilize native widgets. In addition to SWT, RCP gives your application a framework for adding the following Eclipse-innovated features for free:

  • Perspectives
  • Views
  • Editors
  • Preferences
  • Internationalization

The full RCP documentation is available at the Eclipse development server

Rich Client Platform - Eclipse 3 M5 new feature

i must admit that our Eclipse plugin is broken as of M5. There have been a lot of internal changes, a lot of things have moved to different feature parts, and i guess very few Plugins will run on M5 right out of the box.
