MSN Messenger 6.1 - thanks Bill for enabling my webcam

I didn't thought that I would post about the MSN Messenger once, but version 6.1

as TMB told me at lunch tonite is able to perform wonderful VOIP and VideoOIP utilizing the cheap-webcams we all have at home … downloaded it and I was

... amazed (below picture) ...

Thanks Bill… finally some stuff that works… I just wondered why this tool was not downloaded with 40 or 50 megs of Windows XP patchtes and upgrades…

What we still need as old-skool trillian users:

  • WinAmp plugin for /m to display the current MP3 title to the other
  • (maybe with an addon to download it directly?)
  • time-log for the chat – like IRC a line should look like "HH:MM " to allow a better review later
  • CTRL-CursorUp to reload the last textline

What we still have to test out are the phone conference and maybe even video conference capabilites…

MSN Messenger 6.1 - thanks Bill for enabling my webcam

Well I just popped in to this website, and read What we still need as old-skool trillian users...

That's all avalible! Check it out at www.msgplus.net (I think...) the program is called messenger plus and it's an add-on to MSN Messenger.

You may want to remove how MSN Messenger save's their messages and use MsgPlus's version. If you don't like how either save your messages there are other programs that can do it, and I belive you can edit how MsgPlus does it slightly.

You can do the winamp thing (I think?) or if not there would be an MsgPlus extention (I would think...)

But it's all at www.mess.be

The last thing is yes, the Ctrl+Up Arrow lets you re-show/re-type stuff.

And the reason why microsoft wouldn't have it with windows is it's kind of an external program that everyone uses. And if you don't use it it's annoying and useless...

I use it to keep touch in friends who don't have webcams and all that.

What would be even better than getting Trillian stuff to MSN, is to get VoIP and Webcam support into Trillian.

AFAIK, MS has licensed their stuff from Logitech. Maybe the community of Trillian should ask Logitech for the same? It would only be a benefit for Logitech to get more l33t, old school customers ;-)
I know for sure that I would love it... I just discovered the quality of the cams in MSN just recently. And VoIP would surely reduce my phone bills :p
