Google Desktop Search is Google's attack on Microsoft/MSN search features…

indexing Outlook / Outlook Express, Word, AOL Instant Messenger , Excel, Internet Explorer , PowerPoint and text files they want to make the Google Interface your "Universal Resource Locator" interface…

Their recommendation: "it may make sense to install before going to lunch." could mean some hours of indexing for the typical installations…

Google Desktop Search caches the documents and web pages visited (unfortunately they don't seem to support Opera :-( )... I wonder how that cached index will increase over time …

Compared to the free Outlook Lookout search the email indexing doesn't seem to be so sophisticated…

well – just give it a try… they say the Google Desktop Search program does not make your computer's content accessible to Google or anyone else. Their privacy policy goes more into detail
