Not only that the cache servers and pagerank datacenters of Google went down days ago, today a firefox plugin was released that happens to become the Nightmare of Google :

CustomizeGoogle

It allows you to

  • enable a Google Suggest query in all Google windows – very very handy
  • add some extra search links to Yahoo, Teoma, MSN, etc.
  • filter ads from all Google services like search, group, news, etc
  • disallow Google to create a user profile by tampering with their Cookies…

Now this is a tough one… enjoy.

This hack is actually just ONE of a million cool scripts using GreaseMonkey a framework for Firefox to modify web sites behaviour as you wish…

Yeah, it's cool. Do you realize that the reason Google is such a great service is that it can exist for free because of the Ads this kind of thing filters out? This will hurt the free Internet as we know it. How Cool.

thanks for your comments - I agree totally that this would reduce the monstrous earning of Google by a Fraction. I do NOT believe that it has a vital effect on the internet as we know it, because if it would become a major threat to Google (e.g. as default plugin in FF with all ad-filters turned on, currently not default plugin, all ad-filters turned off) then they would find ways to get around the filters... be asured.
