The next online backup system I signed up for is DriveHq.

got a smooth setup, but job stalled at 71% without errors…

They offer similar terms and features at first look… but give you a really free 100 MB for testing… don't need a credit card at all.

One interesting feature I haven't seen at xdrive is the "real time backup" which sounds like they would upload a file to the backup storage everytime it's changed… I wonder how that would make sense, the retention time of 10 versions they offer would be used after me typing some pages in a document…

because they say as soon as a file is changed, it will be updated on our server, and your working files are protected in real time…. that would be pretty contraproductive for many situations

After signup and downloading the backup application I was able to create a backup job for 50 MB files of my master thesis in minute… then it started uploading the files encrypted to them… pretty smooth…

But hey – I noticed after 1 hour, that this pretty small backup job stalled at 71%, the tool giving me an estimated 53356 minutes left to complete the job… what went wrong?

After stopping – the job displays as "never started" ... but hey – when I start again it tries to upload only 15 megs instead of the 51… is this is backup resume function that they don't tell us about? It's somehow frightening to trust your files to such an inconsistent application…

Storage counts weird after terminated backup

When I logged into the web interface to find out what happened I saw that already 41 megs of space were used, while still 96 were left… out of 100 megs this is freaking me out a bit… do they have the files or do they not?

again I feel pretty insecure

no web access to encrypted files

Anyway… when I tried to click on one of those files I got back nothing but junk… yes – I encrypted them during the backup process… but expect the web interface to prompt me for the passphrase when I want to open such an encrypted file…

OMG - does nobody notice that this all sucks?
