So DRUPAL6 was released last week finally – this is the GO for all module developers (like us) and heavy drupal users (like us)
to set aside their “normal” business (which is NOT drupal maintenance, consulting or else) and plan for DOZENs of hours and days
to upgrade all their sites…
Frankly,
we are running DRUPAL 4.x sites
we are running DRUPAL 5.x sites
and we will be running the new company site for cemper.com on Drupal 6 soon (postponed launch for DP6)
BUT, I will not and cannot commit to an upgrade mania solely to generate work and say we’re running recent versions
WHY?
Conclusio, nice to see the core being labelled as released, but no big deal actually as we STILL need to have all other contrib modules ported, and that might take months until all our sites are compatible…
and still, a well running drupal site is not a reason for upgrading… except you run into excessive logging issues that actually can kill a drupal server ...
so in fact the Extended logging feature of Drupal6 where you can choose between database or OS-level logging, with the flexibility to monitor your Drupal site events with your own enterprise monitoring tools could be THE major reason for an upgrade currently…
(this was announced by Drupal father Dries Buytaert himself here last summer….
Did I miss something…
do you see any other MUST DO reason for bringing DP4.x and DP5.x to DP6?

Bonjour,

Christoph

for the non-french readers of my blog:
question was:

Good day,
I'm a beginner with Drupal and would like to know about the multilingual features of Drupal6 ... can somebody help me?

my response was
Hi dear reader, I appreciate your comment.
Actually while Drupal6 offers multilingual features we use a plugin called "Localizer" which
we found to be "the key" to real multilingual sites... this is not available for Drupal6 and the feature coverage of Drupal6
is worse than what we had with Drupal5+localizer, so we don't migrate but stick with Drupal5
thanks & have a good day
Christoph
