Fix your colors with Pantone Huey Color correction

SCMZZZZZZZ.jpg>

Today I received the Pantone Huey Color correction gadget …

I must admit I didn't care about color calibration until last week, altough I'm shooting on DSLR, ordering color prints in poster-size and much more…

and as this little thingie from Pantone sets a low cost entry point to monitor profiling and calibration I ordered one earlier this week.

My decision was influenced positively for that gadget received an innovation award – and I like that concept, too!

So here is how it works:

  1. After software install you just plug it into your USB
  2. then it measures your ambience light (which can be tracked periodically from then on – calibrating your monitor view depening on sunlight etc… a nice feature)
  3. then you can stick the small device to your monitor panel and start the calibration… they say it takes 2 minutes, but I found this Pantone device to work even faster in less than 1 minute
  4. then you get a BEFORE and AFTER selection to see what changed and just need to confirm color changes…

And like many others I thought – MAN - are you damn crazy… I hate those colors!

I noticed my previous settings were well too warm and yellow… a substitute for sun-light in my dark work corner here?!? anyway, it seems the general pantone color recommendation seems to be pretty cold and blue in general…

I am not feeling fine with the "picture editing mode" for my normal work, but you can always correction the color temperature to be "Warm with medium contrast"...

What I find very puzzling is the BIG difference between the recommendation and my old settings… and guess what – after 1 hour I thought – ok – let's go back to my original settings and resetted everything…

BUT I could not stand the original settings anymore… too unnatural, too yellow…

and I believe that's the point… it's all about getting used to the new colors… and that's the big advantage of such a small device without emotions and habits… I would not have changed the color profile on my screen to where it's at now, but as I'm used to it now, I love it for it's crisp colors….

My recommendation – get yourself a Pantone Huey and see for yourself!
